Baseball Game Preview: Bemidji Lumberjacks vs. Hermantown Hawks

The Bemidji Lumberjacks are taking a road trip to challenge the Hermantown Hawks at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bemidji has five straight wins, Hermantown has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Bemidji barely beat Red Wing the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lumberjacks put the hurt on the Wingers with a sharp 10-3 victory on Saturday.

Kobe Brown made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. Brown was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Bemidji let Stonewall Gessner and Jack Lundquist run wild. Gessner got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run, while Lundquist went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Lundquist is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Dylan Lundin also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Hermantown came up short against Grand Rapids on Tuesday and fell 4-1.

Bemidji's win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Hermantown, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10-1.

Bemidji skirted past Hermantown 4-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lumberjacks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
