Lyndhurst dropped their record down to 13-8 on Saturday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Hasbrouck Heights Aviators by a score of 8-6. The Golden Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Aviators apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Tyler Herman put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one triple.
In other batting news, Shawn Bellenger made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Max Gonzalez was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
As for Hasbrouck Heights, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games.
Like Lyndhurst, Hasbrouck Heights also got a great game from a two-way player: Ethan Perez. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and not a single walk). Perez has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, one triple, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
In other batting news, Damon Rivera was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mario Jimenez, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lyndhurst will square off against St. Mary at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Hasbrouck Heights, they will challenge Wood-Ridge at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
