The North Park Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They fell 47-37 to De Beque. North Park found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and post eight fewer assists than your opponent.
Dezirae Gonzales and Jenna Sessions certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Gonzales dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds, while Sessions almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds. That was a full 56.8% of North Park's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
De Beque's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rachel Graham, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Graham has scored all season. Ava Vines was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds.
North Park's loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-10. As for De Beque, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Park won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against the Eagles at 12:30 p.m. on January 27th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Caprock Academy is ranked 249th, while the Wildcats are ranked 273rd). As for De Beque, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Mustangs at 1:00 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Nucla focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday.
