Basketball Recap: Hampton Christian Academy Triumphs

Hampton Christian Academy won against Denbigh Baptist Christian last Tuesday with 53 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. The Hampton Christian Academy Warriors pulled ahead with a 53-52 photo finish over the Broadwater Academy Vikings. Given the Warriors' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while the Vikings are ranked 260th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Hampton Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jayla Crosby led the charge by putting up 23 points and seven steals. That's the most steals Crosby has posted since back in January of 2024. Imani Lyon also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Hampton Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kacey Ford, who went 7 for 12 en route to 19 points. Another player making a difference was Miranda Smith, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 12 points.

Hampton Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Broadwater Academy, they now have a losing record at 2-3.

Hampton Christian Academy will challenge StoneBridge at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. StoneBridge will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Hampton Christian Academy surely won't give up without a fight. As for Broadwater Academy, they will square off against Greenbrier Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Broadwater Academy is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
