Apex has gone 8-2 against Cary recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Apex Cougars will square off against the Cary Imps at 7:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Apex's last matchup with Millbrook could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Tuesday. Apex came up short against Millbrook, falling 17-10. One positive for the Cougars, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.
CULLEN KLINGEMANN was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. KLINGEMANN was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, ADRIAN GONZALEZ was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing Three bases. while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. JADEN GAYLES also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.
Meanwhile, Cary lost 8-1 to Apex on Monday. The Imps haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Apex's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cary, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 2-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Apex has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cary struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Apex took their win against Cary in their previous matchup on Monday by a conclusive 8-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Apex since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
