The TEACH Homeschool Beach Breakers will face off against the Walsingham Academy Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with four losses in a row, TEACH Homeschool turned things around against Southampton Academy on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Raiders 5-3.
Jordan Pyles made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two).
Pyles wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Zach Daniels, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.
TEACH Homeschool hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Walsingham Academy). They blew past Hampton Roads Academy 12-2 on Thursday. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Navigators recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Luke Rains looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hamilton Adams, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Walsingham Academy's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 2-1 (and 4-5-1 when he doesn't). Daniel Guntherberg was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
TEACH Homeschool pushed their record up to 4-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Walsingham Academy, the victory got them back to even at 6-6-1.
TEACH Homeschool might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Walsingham Academy when the teams last played back in March.
