Baseball Game Preview: Tuscola Mountaineers vs. Swain County Maroon Devils

For the second straight game, Tuscola will face off against Swain County. The Mountaineers will square off against the Maroon Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Tuscola has won three straight at home, while Swain County won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.

Tuscola is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Swain County get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Mountaineers, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Amos Rich made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bo West, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-5. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Riley Shuler, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Tuscola always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .659. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Tuscola has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Swain County, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 11-7 record.
