The Cambridge-South Dorchester Vikings are taking a road trip to square off against the Queen Anne's County Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Cambridge-South Dorchester has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since April 10.
Cambridge-South Dorchester fell victim to Mardela and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 15-0 to the Warriors. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 10, 2018, but that streak is no more.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Queen Anne's County). They never let Kent County get on the board and left with a 19-0 win on Saturday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Lions considering their two-run performance the game before.
Ethan Keppler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Caleb Sutch was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (two). Jacob Clough was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Queen Anne's County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .536. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Queen Anne's County is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cambridge-South Dorchester, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.
Cambridge-South Dorchester suffered a grim 21-1 defeat to Queen Anne's County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
