It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Averill Park Warriors can now relate to. They suffered a rough 31-7 loss at the hands of the Tuskers on Friday. While losing is never fun, Averill Park can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while Somers is ranked sixth).
Somers got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Mason Kelly out in front who rushed for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Mac Sullivan was another key contributor, throwing for 140 yards and two touchdowns while completing 85% of his passes.
Another reason for the win was Somers' imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Ryan Cole was especially locked on to Averill Park's QB and sacked him three times.
This is the second loss in a row for Averill Park and nudges their season record down to 8-4. As for Somers, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 11-1.
Averill Park does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Somers is on the road again on Friday and play against Niskayuna at 6:00 p.m. on November 24th. Niskayuna is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
