The Pueblo South Colts will be playing at home against the Pueblo East Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Pueblo South is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Eagles in Colorado (the Colts are ranked 91st, while the Eagles are ranked 213th).
Pueblo South fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Wildcats on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 58-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats.
Pueblo South's loss came about despite a quality game from Maurice Austin, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten rebounds. Austin is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 16 every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sergio Salazar, who scored six points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Pueblo East fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They walked away with a 61-53 win over Pueblo Centennial on Tuesday.
Pueblo South's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Pueblo East, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-12.
Pueblo South was able to grind out a solid win over the Eagles in their previous meeting back in January, winning 66-54. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Pueblo East's Izaiah Trujillo, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds.
