Macey Ballard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Tri's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Faith McCrobie, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, Indianapolis Lutheran made easy work of Indiana School for the Deaf on Tuesday and carried off a 17-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Saints, who have now won 15 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Lilly Schultz and Gracie Boggs made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Schultz tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Boggs pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Schultz posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. At bat, Schultz went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Boggs went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leyla Miller, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Avery Langston, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with four runs and two RBI.
Indianapolis Lutheran always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Indiana School for the Deaf only posted an OBP of .348.
Tri's victory bumped their record up to 22-5. As for Indianapolis Lutheran, their win bumped their record up to 20-6.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Tri has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Indianapolis Lutheran struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
