Baseball Game Preview: Clear Creek Golddiggers vs. Flatirons Academy Bison

Clear Creek is 1-6 against Flatirons Academy since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Golddiggers will head out on the road to square off against the Bison at 4:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Back in March, Clear Creek made easy work of Bruce Randolph and carried off a 17-5 win. The victory continues a trend for the Golddiggers in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now won four in a row.

Blake Weichel and Wyatt Huff did most of the damage at the plate: Weichel went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and one double, while Huff scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Raymond Kurtz, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Clear Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. The last time their batting average was this high was since the start of last season.

Meanwhile, Flatirons Academy put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 12-9 win over Front Range Christian.

Flatirons Academy got a big performance out of Dillon Sauer, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Braxton Kelley also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Flatirons Academy's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 18.8 runs this season. As for Clear Creek, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Clear Creek might still be hurting after the 20-0 loss they got from Flatirons Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Golddiggers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
