The Globe Tigers lost against the Payson Longhorns back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Globe took a hard 65-47 fall against Payson. Globe has struggled against Payson recently, as their contest on Monday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Globe lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Josiah Cutter, who scored 18 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Jonas Dillon, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Leading Payson to victory were Mikey Schinstock and Omar Fierro-Nava. Schinstock scored 24 points along with five rebounds, while Fierro-Nava dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Fierro-Nava pulled down eight or more rebounds. Sergio Madrid was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Globe's defeat dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Payson, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-7.
Globe will be playing at home against Benjamin Franklin at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Benjamin Franklin knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Globe likes a good challenge. Payson won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Holbrook at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Holbrook focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 last Saturday.
