On Saturday, North Central needed a bit of extra time to put away Indianapolis Bishop Chatard. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Trojans 11-10. Considering the Panthers' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Harlow Heath made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Heath was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, North Central let Kaelyn Sutherland and Samantha Saalfrank run wild. Sutherland went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Saalfrank went 2-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.
North Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Pike was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 21-11 to Heritage Christian. On the bright side, the 11- run effort marked the Red Devils' highest-scoring contest to date.
Lilianna Richardson made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Kamya Smith also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
North Central's win bumped their record up to 4-6-1. As for Pike, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-13.
Pike's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: North Central has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. It's a different story for Pike, though, as they've only averaged .355. Will they be able to contain North Central's hitters?
