Basketball Recap: Nucla Piles Up the Points Against Ouray

There's no place like home for Nucla, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They blew past the Ouray Trojans 58-6 on Wednesday. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matches by 21 points or more this season.

Nucla's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kendra McCluer led the charge by putting up 12 points and six steals. Darcy Bray was another key player, scoring ten points in addition to eight rebounds and seven steals.

Nucla smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 37 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Nucla is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.0 points over those games. Ouray is on a 22-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-22.

Looking ahead, Nucla will look to defend their home court on Friday against Telluride at 4:00 p.m. Nucla's defense has only allowed 26 points per game this season, so Telluride's offense will have their work cut out for them. Ouray does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
