The Northland Christian Cougars will take on the Covenant Christian Cougars in a holiday battle at at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Northland Christian turned things around against Incarnate Word Academy on Saturday. They walked away with a 42-31 victory over the Falcons.
Northland Christian relied on the efforts of Sasha Simon, who went 8 for 14 on her way to 18 points in addition to seven steals and five assists, and Savannah Hardwick, who posted 16 points in addition to five steals and three blocks. That makes it five consecutive games in which Simon has scored at least a third of Northland Christian's points.
They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Northland Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February.
Meanwhile, Covenant Christian humbled Legacy Christian Academy with a 51-5 victory. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 22 points or more this season.
Covenant Christian found their leader in sophomore Lucy Hahn, who almost dropped a triple-double on 17 points, nine boards, and ten blocks. Those ten blocks set a new season-high mark for Hahn. The team also got some help courtesy of Skylar May, who had ten points and seven boards.
Covenant Christian is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 30.3 points. As for Northland Christian, their win bumped their record up to 5-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Northland Christian has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30.3 boards per game. However, it's not like Covenant Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.4 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
