AA Region VIII recap Sept. 26, 2012
Aynor extended the longest winning streak in AA Region VIII this week by beating Hannah-Pamplico, 54-12. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Blue Jackets.
Dillon suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 16-7 loss to Marlboro County. The Wildcats had been ranked eighth, but fell to 29 following the defeat.
Loris's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mikel Soles threw for 35 yards and Levi Moody had 20 yards receiving. On the ground Moody chipped in 62 yards. Sigfreid Long helped Loris' passing attack out by catching three balls for 17 yards.
Austin Messanger made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Lions fell to Georgetown. The 6-foot-0 junior racked up two sacks.
Loris' offense has been unstoppable this season and the Lions feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Soles has thrown for 106 yards and one touchdown this season, while Long has five catches for 40 yards. Moody leads the league in rushing with 474 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Loris takes on Marion. Jamie Snider's team's offense has scored 88 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the Swamp Foxes have allowed only 185 on the year.
Marion and Hemingway played the most hotly contested game in AA Region VIII this week, with Marion eventually emerging with a 15-14 victory.
