Cheraw has gone 3-0 against Anson recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Cheraw Braves will head out to square off against the Anson Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Cheraw fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Hartsville on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Red Foxes 53-49. The Braves have struggled against the Red Foxes recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Anyah Banks, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Sa'Nya Murray, who posted 16 points and six boards.
Even though they lost, Cheraw smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Anson's good fortune finally ran out last Friday. They fell just short of Piedmont by a score of 34-31. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bearcats have suffered since November 22, 2023.
Cheraw will have to keep a close watch on Dorhianna Rivers and Titiyanna Burns, a pair of players who had a big impact on Anson's prior game. Rivers had seven points and 12 rebounds, while Burns posted seven points along with 11 rebounds and five steals. Burns is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played.
Cheraw's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Anson, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cheraw has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 33.4 boards per game. However, it's not like Anson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.2 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Cheraw took their victory against Anson when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 55-34. The rematch might be a little tougher for Cheraw since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
