The Virginia Academy Patriots will head out on the road to take on the Ad Fontes Academy Falcons at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Virginia Academy pushed their score all the way to 57 on Wednesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 65-57 hit to the loss column at the hands of Benedictine. While losing is never fun, Virginia Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 173rd, while Benedictine is ranked 28th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Surafel Muluneh, who scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rondel Jones Jr., who scored seven points along with seven assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, Ad Fontes Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They lost to Chelsea Academy at home by a decisive 57-38 margin. Ad Fontes Academy has struggled against Chelsea Academy recently, as their game on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Virginia Academy's defeat was their sixth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-16. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for Ad Fontes Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.
Virginia Academy came up short against Ad Fontes Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2017, falling 72-62. Can Virginia Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
