The Morenci Wildcats will be taking part in a tournament against the Thunderbird Titans at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Morenci will be strutting in after a win while Thunderbird will be coming in after a loss.
Morenci took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 13-3 margin over Round Valley. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matches by ten runs or more this season.
Cameryn Woodall made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, Jaliyah Hernandez was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three doubles, two runs, and one RBI. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in doubles. Another player making a difference was Kieralyn Madrigal, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Morenci was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Thunderbird has relied on a stalwart pitcher averaging 3.56 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They came up short against Deer Valley, falling 10-3. The Titans haven't had much luck with the Skyhawks recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Thunderbird saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alicia Flores, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Morenci's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 12 runs. As for Thunderbird, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2.
Both Morenci and Thunderbird just can't seem to miss. Morenci has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.4 hits per game. However, it's not like Thunderbird struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.2 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Morenci took their win against Thunderbird in their previous matchup back in March of 2018 by a conclusive 10-2. Will Morenci repeat their success, or does Thunderbird have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
