The Decatur Community Red Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Kansas (Decatur Community is ranked 327th, while Wheatland-Grinnell is ranked 347th).
Last Tuesday, Decatur Community came up short against Norton and fell 45-38.
Despite their defeat, Decatur Community saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jaden Capuzzo, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyler Ostmeyer, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Wheatland-Grinnell's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight defeat. They were dealt a 73-22 defeat at the hands of Dighton. Wheatland-Grinnell has not had much luck with Dighton recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Decatur Community's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Wheatland-Grinnell, they dropped their record down to 2-16 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Decatur Community strolled past Wheatland-Grinnell in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 by a score of 57-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for Decatur Community since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
