St. Francis is on a seven-game streak of home wins, while Axtell is on a six-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The St. Francis Flyers will take on the Axtell Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. St. Francis knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven contests -- so hopefully Axtell likes a good challenge.
St. Francis put the finishing touches on their seventh blowout victory of the season last Thursday. They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 40-8 victory over Fullerton. With St. Francis ahead 32-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
St. Francis found their leader in underclassman Carson Wessel, who rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 111 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Mason Geilenkirchen, who gained 79 total yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Axtell didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Loomis last Thursday, but they still walked away with a 28-24 victory. That's two games straight that Axtell has won by exactly four points.
Axtell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Taaron Lavicky, who rushed for 72 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries.
Their wins bumped St. Francis to 8-1 and Axtell to 7-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. St. Francis has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 207.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Axtell struggles in that department as they've been even better at 235.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
