V Section III recap October 22, 2013
Thatcher added to the longest winning streak in V Section III this week by beating Willcox, 40-7. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Eagles.
Tombstone fell to Morenci 52-12 last week, the largest margin of any game. William Braswell was a bright spot for the Yellow Jackets, as he threw for 35 yards and ran for 66 yards in the defeat.
Heath Motes was a passing and rushing force as Thatcher bested the Cowboys. He completed 14 passes for 146 yards and also ran for 123 yards. Motes' key target this week was Mitch Fullenwider, who caught 10 passes for 106 yards.
Jeff Shumway made the biggest impact on defense this week as Dave Jefferies' team defeated Willcox. The 6-foot-2 junior recorded 1 fumble and racked up 2 sacks.
Gregory Villareal was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 142 yards on 17 carries as jack kortsen's team lost to the Eagles. Tanner Hogue also contributed to the rushing game with 23 yards on the ground.
The Cowboys are currently in fourth, while Benson is in second.
The Bobcats led the league in scoring this week by notching 54 points on Tanque Verde. Travis Barney threw for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 111 yards during the win.
