Pendleton County has gone 9-1 against Union recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Pendleton County Wildcat will be playing at home against the Union Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Pendleton County will be strutting in after a win while Union will be coming in after a defeat.
While Pendleton County didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against Pocahontas County by a score of 45-35 on Saturday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcat.
It was another big night for Avery Townsend, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. That makes it ten consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Pendleton County's points. Another player making a difference was Julia Mongold, who posted five points in addition to five boards and three steals.
Pendleton County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 17 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Union was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were outmatched by East Hardy and fell 63-26. The Tigers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-16.
Lexi Stahl was Union's leading scorer, having posted eight points. Chanelle Sutton held things down on the boards with 16 rebounds.
Pendleton County is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.4 points per game. As for Union, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Pendleton County has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Union struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
