The Berne Union Rockets will head out on the road to face off against the Bishop Rosecrans Bishops at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday. Berne Union is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Bishop Rosecrans will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Berne Union extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Rockets walked away with a 6-3 win over Miller.
Meanwhile, Bishop Rosecrans was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They blew past Fisher Catholic 9-1. The victory continues a trend for the Bishops in their matchups with the Irish: they've now won five in a row.
Coen Grandstaff spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Nick Bernath, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kohen Harris, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Bishop Rosecrans kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.
Berne Union's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Bishop Rosecrans, their record now sits at 6-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Berne Union has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bishop Rosecrans struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Berne Union suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Bishop Rosecrans when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Rockets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
