The Awaken Christian Lions were the 53-46 winner over the GV Christian Guardians when they last played one another back in November of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Awaken Christian was just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 48-47 to GV Christian. Awaken Christian has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Awaken Christian saw an underclassman step up: Jaylen Jordan scored 23 points along with six steals. Another player making a difference was Gavin Kepler, who scored six points along with two steals.
Awaken Christian struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as GV Christian racked up 14 assists.
GV Christian can attribute much of their success to Deomani Loveland, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Loveland is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Madsen, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and six assists.
Awaken Christian's loss dropped their record down to 9-6. As for GV Christian, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-9.
Awaken Christian will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against American Heritage Academy at 6:00 p.m. That game will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jacob Rodrigues and Jordan. GV Christian's road trip will continue as they head out to face Laughlin at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Laughlin is ranked 96th, while GV Christian is ranked 88th).
