The Bayfield Wolverines will head out to face off against the Durango Demons at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Bayfield took a 15-run defeat the last time they faced off against Montrose, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Wolverines came out on top in a nail-biter against the Red Hawks on Tuesday, sneaking past 13-11. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wolverines considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Micah Cornelia was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Tavian Box was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs.
Bayfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Durango had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Saturday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 9-8 W against the Tigers. The game was the first time the Demons have beaten the Tigers on their field since May 15, 2021.
Austin Romero was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other pitching news, Coen Anderson looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Durango got a big performance out of Ollie Peterson, who earned two runs and five stolen bases. Duncan Walsh also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Durango's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Bayfield, their record now sits at 4-8.
Bayfield suffered a grim 9-2 defeat to Durango in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
