The Round Lake Panthers will head out to take on the Woodstock Blue Streaks at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Round Lake will bounce into Wednesday's match after beating Richmond-Burton, who they had gone 0-6 against in their six prior meetings. The Panthers came out on top against the Rockets by a score of 7-4 on Tuesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Landon Lyon was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Lozada, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Woodstock). They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over Harvard on Tuesday. Winning may never get old, but the Blue Streaks sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
The team relied heavily on Cayden Holtzee, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Woodstock's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-15 when he doesn't). Everett Flannery was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Woodstock kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive contests.
Woodstock pushed their record up to 8-15 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Round Lake, their record is now 4-18.
Round Lake skirted past Woodstock 6-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
