With a playoff game on the line, the Crest Chargers rose to the challenge on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Parkwood 53-0 at home. The victory was just business as usual for Crest, who after 11 games remain undefeated this season.
Among those leading the charge was Ny?tavious Huskey, who threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Quashon Tate, who rushed for 63 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Parkwood to a paltry 139 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Crest's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out nine times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Nehemiah Parker and Ty?jai Johnson who racked up five sacks between them.
Crest has yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 11-0 record. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Stuart W. Cramer and 2-9 Parkwood (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 37.9% over those games). As for Parkwood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season.
Crest will be playing in front of their home fans against Statesville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Statesville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 63rd, while Crest is ranked seventh). Parkwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
