Lakeville South is on a four-game streak of home wins, while Farmington is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Cougars will welcome the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Lakeville South 4, Farmington 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Lakeville South's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They came out on top against Eagan by a score of 5-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cougars as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Not much got past Lauren Schellhammer, who gave up just a hit and racked up seven Ks to keep Eagan off the board.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Trinity Jensen, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Emmie Herder was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Farmington and Rosemount meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Tigers walked away with a 3-0 victory over the Irish.
Kayla Schweich made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one RBI.
Schweich wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lila Johannsen, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Lakeville South's win bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Farmington, their victory bumped their record up to 10-1.
Farmington's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Lakeville South has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Farmington, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Lakeville South keep running through batters, or will the Tigers buck the trend?
Lakeville South might still be hurting after the 12-1 defeat they got from Farmington when the teams last played back in April. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
