The Akron Rams were the 41-38 winner over the Fleming Wildcats when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Akron fell 37-27 to the Wildcats on Tuesday.
Akron's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Mikenna Weers, who scored eight points along with four steals, and Kinsey Grauer who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Akron struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fleming to victory, but perhaps none more so than Brooke Schaefer, who scored nine points along with two steals. Schaefer is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Madi Serrato was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Akron's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Fleming, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
Akron will head out on the road to challenge the Plainsmen at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Perkins County is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.1 points per game this season. As for Fleming, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Weldon Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 last Saturday.
