The Coronado Cougars came tearing into Monday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Clark, posting a 64-21 victory on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Coronado has posted yet this season.
Coronado found their leader in underclassman Scarlet Lopez, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Lopez is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Gabrielle Brooks was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with two steals.
Coronado is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Clark, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Coronado will take on Centennial at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Centennial knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matchups -- so hopefully Coronado likes a good challenge. As for Clark, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Desert Oasis at 6:30 p.m. Desert Oasis is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
