Softball Recap: Grand Blanc Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Victory

Grand Blanc barely beat Walled Lake Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bobcats blew past the Vikings 13-3 on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won 19 matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Kayla Blumenschein made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last seven contests. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one double, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Grand Blanc got a big performance out of Kate Mitchell, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Hannah Johnson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Grand Blanc always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Walled Lake Central only posted an OBP of .273.

The victory was the eighth in a row for Grand Blanc, bringing their record up to 25-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Walled Lake Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season.

Grand Blanc will square off against Escanaba at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday. As for Walled Lake Central, they will challenge Kettering at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings are facing the Captains at the right time seeing as the Captains are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
