The Dyer County Choctaws will take on the Houston Mustangs in a holiday battle at 3:30 p.m. on Monday at. Dyer County is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
On Saturday, Dyer County earned a 61-48 win over Union City. Given Dyer County's advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 51st, while Union City is ranked 230th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Houston came tearing into Saturday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They managed a 58-53 win over Holmes County Central.
Laila Mcnamee continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with six rebounds. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for her. Amani Lipscomb was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with four steals.
Dyer County's win bumped their record up to 8-0. As for Houston, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Dyer County took their win against Houston when the teams last played back in December of 2021 by a conclusive 56-36. The rematch might be a little tougher for Dyer County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
