Balboa School are ranked highly in their home state, and on Tuesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of The Rock National Lions. Balboa School took a 79-65 bruising from The Rock National. While losing is never fun, Balboa School can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 25th in California, while The Rock National is ranked fifth in Florida).
Balboa School's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jahmarian Forrester, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Jamaal Phatty who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Phatty pulled down eight or more rebounds. Promise Otunu was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.
Balboa School's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-10. As for The Rock National, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 20-8.
Balboa School will face off against Potter's House Christian at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. Balboa School knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 14 contests -- so hopefully Potter's House Christian likes a good challenge. As for The Rock National, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Varsity Opponent at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
