Baseball Recap: Whitehall's Win on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Whitehall barely beat Oakridge the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Vikings blew past the Eagles 14-4 on Friday. The win was familiar territory for the Vikings, who have now won five contests in a row.

Ethan DeShong was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs. Whitehall is 2-1 when DeShong posts two or more runs, but 10-14 otherwise.

In other batting news, Myles Welch was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Max Krukowski also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Whitehall always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oakridge only posted an OBP of .321.

Whitehall's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-15. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Oakridge, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-9.

Looking ahead, Whitehall will challenge Newaygo at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Oakridge, they will be playing at home against Ludington at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
