River View extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping them down to 5-9. They came up short against the Westside Renegades, falling 9-2. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Lilly Perkins made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
As for Westside, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 7-4 record. Considering they have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
On Westside's side, Tenli Hicks and Paisley Shannon were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Hicks didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Shannon pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At bat, Hicks went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI, while Shannon went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Those three hits gave Shannon a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kinley Morgan, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high. Shay Bailey was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Coming up, River View will look to defend their home field on Friday against Bluefield at 5:30 p.m. The Beavers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.75 runs per game on average), something the Raiders will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Westside, they will head out to face off against Scott at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Skyhawks' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Renegades' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
