After having lost a blowout in their previous game against McClintock, the Marcos de Niza Padres were happy to have found some success on Friday. They came out on top against Tempe by a score of 35-27. For Marcos de Niza, this counts as revenge for the 38-11 defeat Tempe walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2022.
Marcos de Niza got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaydien Giles out in front who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds. Giles is absolutely dominating the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Leila Rodriguez, who scored 8 points along with 8 steals.
Tempe's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kiari Montanez Woods, who scored 8 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Coral Garcia Miranda, who scored 6 points.
Marcos de Niza's victory bumped their record up to 2-3. As for Tempe, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marcos de Niza will take on Prescott at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Tempe, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mingus at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Mingus' favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
