The Dalton Bulldogs will head out to take on the Northwestern Huskies at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dalton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
On Friday, Dalton earned a 12-9 win over Mapleton.
Skylar Fletcher made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up four earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. Fletcher was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lily Teague, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Hannah Wenger, who went 2-for-4 with three runs.
Dalton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 12 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Northwestern was a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They lost 14-2 to Western Brown.
Alysa Troyan made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Northwestern's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Dalton, their record is now 8-5.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Dalton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Northwestern struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dalton came out on top in a nail-biter against Northwestern in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
