The Thomaston Bears will venture away from home to square off against the Nonnewaug Chiefs at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Thomaston is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.9 runs per game this season.
Thomaston was handed a 16-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Shepaug Valley 4-3.

Sloan Walmsley made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aylin Lahey, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Addison Patchell, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Nonnewaug put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They never let Farmington get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory. Considering the Chiefs have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Thomaston, Nonnewaug also got a great game from a two-way player: Jordan Kovach. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Kovach has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with three runs.
In other batting news, Gianna DeLorenzo was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, two triples, and five RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted five or more RBI the last three times she's played. Jade Rinaldi was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Nonnewaug kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Nonnewaug pushed their record up to 10-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Thomaston, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Thomaston has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .480. However, it's not like Nonnewaug struggles in that department as they've averaged .613. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Thomaston might still be hurting after the 19-3 loss they got from Nonnewaug when the teams last played on Monday. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
