It may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Laney ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past the Myers Park Mustangs 7-6. The Buccaneers' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Laney got a great performance from Jesse Smith as he pitched 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.
At the plate, Laney's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mason Nance, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Nance a new career-high. Dom Civelli was another, going 2-for-5 with three RBI.
Laney's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Myers Park, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.
Coming up, Laney will welcome Hough at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Myers Park, they will head out to challenge Hoggard at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
