The Burges Mustangs will face off against the Canutillo Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Burges is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Jefferson on Friday as they made off with a 20-2 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Mustangs as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.
Victor Aguirre was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2025. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Burges: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-10-2 otherwise.

Those two stolen bases gave Ortiz a new career-high. Evan Rodriguez was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.
Burges always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .578. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Canutillo won against Clint on Tuesday with 11 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Friday. Canutillo blew past Andress 11-3. Considering Canutillo has won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Emilio Melendez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Melendez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
In other pitching news, Julian Esparza looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Paul Zuniga, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Ernesto Ramirez, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Canutillo's victory bumped their record up to 10-8-1. As for Burges, their win bumped their record up to 6-10-2.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Burges has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .435. However, it's not like Canutillo struggles in that department as they've averaged .445. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Burges suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Canutillo when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
