The Wilcox Chargers and the Los Gatos Wildcats squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Wilcox Chargers had to settle for second. They took a serious blow against the Wildcats, falling 49-14. Wilcox gained 145 more yards on the day, but it was Los Gatos that made the best of use of them.
When it comes to explaining why Wilcox lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tyson Bonilla. Despite the final result, he rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries.
Los Gatos' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Boxer Kopcsak-Yeung, who rushed for 117 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. Kopcsak-Yeung has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jaylen Thomas, who gained 88 total yards and four touchdowns.
This is the second loss in a row for Wilcox and nudges their season record down to 8-5. As for Los Gatos, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.
Wilcox does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Los Gatos will be playing in front of their home fans against El Cerrito at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. El Cerrito knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Los Gatos likes a good challenge.
