The Xavier Prep Saints suffered their biggest loss since December 11, 2023 on Wednesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 62-38 walloping at the hands of Aquinas. Xavier Prep has not had much luck with Aquinas recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the loss, Xavier Prep saw an underclassman step up: Paul Dreisbach scored 20 points. Johnny Ferrel was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with two steals.
Aquinas' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Paten Calloway IV, who scored 17 points along with six assists and six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Calloway IV scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bol Dhieu, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Xavier Prep has not been sharp recently, as they've lost nine of their last 11 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Aquinas, their victory bumped their record up to 8-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Xavier Prep will challenge Rancho Mirage at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Rancho Mirage will be looking to keep their seven-game home win streak alive. As for Aquinas, they will head out on the road to face off against Linfield Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Linfield Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past eight matchups -- so hopefully Aquinas likes a good challenge.
