The Terra Linda Trojans will venture away from home to face off against the Piner Prospectors at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
If Terra Linda beats Piner with 14 runs on Thursday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Terra Linda never let Campolindo get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory on Tuesday.
Eleanor Johnson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-low in hits. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Katie Malas looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Olivia Offenbach, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ela Leon, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Terra Linda was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Campolindo only posted a batting average of .062.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Piner). They were the clear victor by a 17-7 margin over Elsie Allen on Tuesday. With that win, the Prospectors brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Genavieve De Mauro was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those runs marked the first that she scored this season. Cambria Weerts was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Terra Linda's record is now 2-0. As for Piner, with the victory, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-3.
Terra Linda skirted past Piner 6-5 in their previous meeting back in February of 2018. The rematch might be a little tougher for Terra Linda since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
