Softball Recap: Knox Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Knox extended their winning streak to four on Thursday, bumping them up to 6-2. They were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the LaVille Lancers. With that victory, the Redskins brought their scoring average up to 6.8 runs per game.

Cheryl Barnes and Da'Miya Sherrod were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Barnes tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Sherrod pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Barnes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Barnes went 3-for-5 with two RBI, while Sherrod got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most hits Barnes has posted since back in May of 2025.

In other batting news, Kenzie Sanders and Addison Sponaugle did most of the damage at the plate: Sanders went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, while Sponaugle went 4-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base. Those four hits gave Sponaugle a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Madalee Hinshaw, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Knox hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.

As for LaVille, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly ten runs.

On LaVille's side, Grace McBride was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. Faith Mejer was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Knox will head out on the road to take on Winamac at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Redskins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season. As for LaVille, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Triton at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
