Minnechaug Regional pushed their score all the way to 55 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of East Longmeadow by a score of 58-55. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Minnechaug Regional has suffered yet this season.
Meanwhile, Pittsfield didn't have too much trouble with West Springfield at home on Friday as they won 70-53. Given Pittsfield's advantage in MaxPreps' Massachusetts basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while West Springfield is ranked 291st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pittsfield's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Malachi Perry, who scored 18 points, and Makai Shepardson, who scored 20 points. Da'Sean Brown was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Minnechaug Regional's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Pittsfield, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.
Minnechaug Regional couldn't quite finish off Pittsfield when the teams last played back in February of 2023 and fell 65-63. Can Minnechaug Regional avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
