Lake Weir has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will face off against the Belleview Rattlers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Weir will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 616th, while Belleview is ranked 260th).
Last Saturday, Lake Weir opened the new year with a less-than-successful 41-30 loss to St. John Lutheran.
Meanwhile, Belleview unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They were outmatched by Leesburg on the road and fell 72-15. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Belleview has scored all season.
Aaliyah Armbrister put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored eight points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That was a full 53.3% of Belleview's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Briyanna Miles was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Belleview struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Lake Weir bumped their record down to 0-10 with that loss, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Belleview, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-3.
Lake Weir came up short against Belleview in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 39-26. Can Lake Weir avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
