The Mount Union Trojans will face off against the Southern Huntingdon County Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mount Union has six straight victories, Southern Huntingdon County has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Mount Union's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Claysburg-Kimmel by a score of 4-0.
Not much got past Davin Yocum, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Claysburg-Kimmel off the board. Yocum has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Levi Hunsinger, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Nasir Collins, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Southern Huntingdon County came up short against Juniata Valley on Wednesday and fell 9-6.
Lucas Creswell made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Bronson Hoffman, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Mount Union's win bumped their record up to 15-4. As for Southern Huntingdon County, their loss dropped their record down to 2-13.
Mount Union's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's match. The Trojans have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Southern Huntingdon County, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Mount Union continue to outrun the ball?
