Hempstead hasn't had much luck against Brazos recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Hempstead Bobcats face off against Brazos Cougars at 7:00 p.m.
Hempstead is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They fell 7-4 to East Bernard.
Hempstead saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brayden DiIorio, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. DiIorio also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Brazos hadn't done well against Boling recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Brazos blew past Boling 10-1. The matchup marked the Cougars' most dominant victory of the season.
Kaden Reising spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on five hits and racked up seven Ks. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (two).
On the hitting side, Brazos let Luke Polasek and Carter Baros run wild. Polasek scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Baros scored a run while going 3-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Gunner Grigar, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Brazos always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .632. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Brazos has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. Hempstead's loss dropped their record down to 4-11.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Hempstead has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .436. However, it's not like Brazos struggles in that department as they've averaged .465. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Hempstead might still be hurting after the 8-1 defeat they got from Brazos in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Will Hempstead have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
